Inspiration from Will Smith

Excellent montage of inspirational words from Will Smith:

You can do it!

And so can I.

Finally finished something!

Skull by ~warlordblade on deviantART

The Skull A Day blog is awesome. A few years ago they posted a really cool Stencil skull for spray painting - I decided to draw it. I only changed a few things on the stencil - it's just too cool! Makes me want to spray paint stuff!

Over on my Zero Day Project I have "Create at least one drawing/piece of art a month" as a goal... so here's the first for June!

Now to keep it up or speed up - because I actually started this quite some time ago!

Any ideas? Requests?

Wednesday's Awesome Japanese Music Video!

Today's videos are brought to you with help from an awesome co-worker who gave me some great ideas.

First off we have Gackt - who has been said to be the inspiration for many Final Fantasy Characters. I didn't think it was possible to get hair like that outside of video games!

And from "The Pink Ladies" comes what I hear is one of the MOST popular Karaoke songs!

Their dancing reminds me of the English Lessons including "I was robbed by two men!"

Three is most definitely enough!

Until next week!

Scottish/Highland Festival

Today we took our kids and went to the Highland Festival.

We even joined the Scottish Association! Clan McGowan! (MacGowan? still gotta find out)

Very cool band. Also very cool that Craig Ferguson played WITH them!

We were able to sit and enjoy them for a while. My wife now wants to get me a Kilt!

Hilarious Kids - Ahh the 90's

ME AT NINE, PERFORMING TO MADONNA IN SUMMER '91! from Robert Jeffrey on Vimeo.

From the dancer:
"I performed to MADONNA's "VOGUE" in the Summer of 1991 when my parents took me to Hampton Beach Casino in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. A business in the casino at the time gave tourists the chance to lip-synch to their favorite pop songs in front of a blue screen background, and I was lucky enough to partake that summer.

In honor of the twentieth anniversary of MADONNA's "TRUTH OR DARE" and in celebration of MADONNA's upcoming "W.E.", here is my nine year old self paying tribute to the woman who changed my life and continues to inspire me just as much today as twenty years ago."

Thank you Robert. You are (or maybe WERE, since this was 20 years ago!) an inspiration.

Amazing Free Running - Luci Steel Romberg

While watching the newest Tempest Free Running vid:

I was reminded that the stunt girl Luci Romberg is amazing and I'd seen her in action before.

I found this next video and my amazing wife said she had never seen it before.

I could have sworn that I had posted it on here already. So I double checked and NOPE! I hadn't.

So here is her Ninja Warrior stunt tape. Luci definitely has skills!

You can check out more at her website. Awesome!

Wednesday's Awesome Japanese Music Video!

Yeah - This is going to stick around for a while. I might miss some and I probably won't repost on a Saturday - But AWESOME or cool Japanese Music Videos will be seen on Wednesdays!

Some of them may be funny, but there are some WEIRD ones out there. (I wouldn't click that link btw - very strange and not appropriate for anyone's eyes - especially kids! Don't say I didn't warn you!)

So today's comes from U900! Crocheted Ukulele-playing animals! (already shown a while back on a ukulele post) Playing the BEATLES!

And for those of you who like fairly-androgynous Japanese Boy Bands (Hey - some people like 'em!) Here's KAT-TUN

Yikes.

MISSED Wednesday's Awesome Japanese Music Video

So instead - here's an "awesome" Music video from Norway to make you feel better!

And because it's just not complete without a real Japanese Music Video - Here's another from World Order:
Boy Meets Girl

Next Time I'll have something NOT from World Order!

Danny Wallace' "Friends Like These" Review

I wrote this review over at goodreads after reading this book.

Friends Like These: My Worldwide Quest to Find My Best Childhood Friends, Knock on Their Doors, and Ask Them to Come Out and PlayFriends Like These: My Worldwide Quest to Find My Best Childhood Friends, Knock on Their Doors, and Ask Them to Come Out and Play by Danny Wallace

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

BRILLIANT!
Like the author - I definitely went through (and even 2 years later am still going through) issues of REALLY passing into adult-hood - or reaching/passing THIRTY years old. I could definitely identify with many parts of this book.
UNlike the author however, at 32 years old I have FOUR beautiful children, I have not written best-selling books that have been (or will be) turned into successful movies starring Jim Carrey (good movie actually, and now I've gotta read the book), nor do I have the means to travel off to various parts of the world just to say hi for a couple hours to friends long disconnected.
I do, however, work in IT. Funny, that.
Reading this book made me think about how I look at a lot of things in my life. How I see what's important and what isn't. The fact is, especially with all the tools available today (Facebook, Email, Cellphones/Texting, Skype, Blogs, etc) it really isn't that difficult to MAKE time to visit face-to-face with friends. And I think more of them would love that connection too.
Anyway - this book is wonderfully and entertainingly written - Definitely something I think anybody could enjoy.

View all my reviews

Like I mentioned in the review - this book really made me think...
We disconnect from people all the time without even meaning to.
We move; We change jobs; We get a new haircut...
And suddenly we realize that we haven't talked to somebody in YEARS.
Why not?
The excuse we use a lot is "We just got busy with LIFE!"
It's not like we're really THAT busy!
Seriously.
My nights fly by and I feel like "I didn't have time to get it all done!" but what did I do all night? Usually it's checking out Facebook, reading blogs, watching a TV show, looking at Amazon. Stuff like that. Really it isn't hard to go out for a burger with a friend.
Amazingly, that's what I did tonight.
I invited a friend out for a burger - it was his birthday yesterday and his wife was out of town and my amazing wife was all for it - so we went and it was great to just hang out and eat a burger and talk about Martial Arts and Egyptology and Real Estate and Literature.
It was good and I really want more connections. So I'm going to do it. Added a new item to the bucket list:
"Stay Connected" and I DON'T mean Facebook, even though that can be a tool to do so.
Life is good.
I am happy.
